What’s my undertone? Cool, warm, neutral or olive

Undertone is the hue beneath your skin — not how light or dark it is. The tool reads it with your camera; comparing cool and warm fabric pairs at your chin then confirms it.

Undertone isn’t skin depth

Very light and very deep skin can both be cool, warm or neutral. Depth is how light or dark you are; undertone is the direction of the hue — pink-rose, golden-peach, or balanced. “Fair = cool” and “tan = warm” are myths.

About olive undertones

Olive skin carries a muted green-grey cast that sits on top of the base undertone. It’s why some people find both gold and silver “almost work”. Muted earth tones, deep jewel tones and soft neutrals usually harmonize; very pastel pinks can look chalky.

Tips for light and deep skin

  • Light skin: redness and visible veins can fake a cool reading — compare away from flushed areas.
  • Deep skin: phone cameras often underexpose; add soft front light and lock exposure.
  • Everyone: tans and self-tanner shift the surface, not the base — retest when it fades.

The four skin undertones at a glance

Cool-leaning

Pink or rosy cast; silver and blue-reds look even; burns more than tans (a clue only).

Warm-leaning

Golden or peachy cast; gold, coral and cream look even; tans easily (a clue only).

Neutral

Cool and warm pairs look about the same; both metals work.

Olive (any base)

Muted green-grey cast on any base; very pale pastels can look chalky.

Gold or silver jewelry for your skin tone

Hold a gold and a silver piece of similar size and shine at the same side of your face, in the same light. If gold makes your skin look more even, start with gold; if silver does, start with silver; if neither wins, you can wear both — and finish (polished, brushed, rose or pale gold) often matters more than the metal itself. Treat the result as one clue: the fabric pairs above are more reliable.
