Light Summer Color Palette

Short answer

Light Summer (sometimes called Cool Light) is one of the 12 seasons in seasonal color analysis. Light Summer is airy and cool-leaning with low depth and gentle contrast. Powder pinks, lavender and soft aqua look natural, while heavy darks and hot, saturated colors can overwhelm.

01 — Character

Light Summer at a glance

Light Summer looks like a watercolor wash: light, cool-leaning and softly blended. Hair is often ash blonde or light ash brown, skin can flush pink easily, and eyes tend to be light blue, grey-green or soft hazel. The best colors are light and gently cool — powder pink, lavender, soft aqua — with enough grey in them to stay calm.

Contrast

Contrast is low. Tonal outfits in two or three neighboring pastels, finished with soft navy or grey-blue instead of black, keep your face the focal point.

Deciding trait

Light

Depth decides first. Light Summer sits at the light end of the scale, so its colors stay airy enough never to overpower your features; its Summer roots add a cool lean.

10 — Common misreads

Four things that make Light Summer look like something else

01

Hair dye

Golden or honey highlights can make Light Summer look like Light Spring, especially in photos. Check drapes against your roots.

02

Lighting

Warm tungsten light makes peach look friendlier than it does in daylight. Compare powder pink against peach by a window.

03

Tanning

Even a light tan can tip Light Summer toward the warmer side for a season; the cool, light read usually comes back as it fades.

04

Makeup

Flushing easily isn’t the same as a cool undertone, and a green color-correcting primer can skew a test. Test without a heavy base.

11 — Colors to skip near the face

What may look heavy near your face

Black, orange and very saturated warm colors can look heavy.

If you love one of these, wear it below the waist, or put a palette color at the neckline.

Looking “tired” in a color is a visual effect of contrast and reflected light, not a health signal.
